Love Thy Neighbour News Round Up!

So, quite a few bits and pieces have happened in the last week or so, and I guess I should tell you right?

Well, firstly was our club night with Restlesslist and Dan Smith, which went rather well indeed; it was really busy, we got drunk and people seemed to be having fun. We can't wait for the next one on 11th February!

Right. A few things to tell you about. We now have complete line ups for The Suuns and Bearsuit shows. The Suuns line up really is a cracker; with support coming from LTN favourites Vile Imbeciles and stars of our first club night Restlesslist. I cannot wait for this show!

Bearsuit will be supported by the wonderful Flash Bang Band and Nathaniel and the Translators, who feature at least a few members of The Hornblower Brothers, which is no bad thing at all.

The only bad bit of news is that Pet Moon has had to pull out of our March club night due to a change in band members. We hope to have them back soon and will make an announcement about who will be playing that show shortly!

Right, I'll leave you with two videos, completely unrelated to the above, but featuring the bloody brilliant Esben and The Witch. They have an album out soon. I've heard it, it's good, but don't take my word for it, listen to Jack Black. He's famous, so he must be right.

Loads of News: Club Night this Friday, Bearsuit & Thomas Truax shows confirmed!

There's almost too much to talk about here, so I'm going to have to be brief...

Firstly. Our club night at The Hope starts THIS FRIDAY! Featuring the wonderously un-pigeon-hole-able Restlesslist, the blissful electronica of London's Dan Smith and DJ sets from Love Thy Neighbour resident DJs and Esben and the Witch, long favourites of mine.

Right, also, 2 new shows to tell you about! Both acts have been knocking around for a while now, and rightly so. First up on Sunday 27th February at The Hope is the madcap stop-start girl/boy cutie-riot grrrl-punk whirlwind that is Bearsuit. John Peel was a big fan, and that's certainly where I first picked up on this great band, who hail from the musical hot-bed that is Norwich. Their first album since 2007 is due this year, which is very exciting indeed.

And lastly, but certainly not least, is the fantastic news that Thomas Truax will be gracing Brighton with his presence once again on Friday 18th March. Playing at the brand spanking new Green Door Store, this will certainly be a treat. To explain his live show to someone who hasn't seen him before is pointless, you simply must see him. A born entertainer, he will captivate the audience from the off, and his collection of bizarre home-made instruments are a sight to behold. He has recorded an album of David Lynch covers and last year released his 5th album, Sonic Dreamer.

Charles Hayward of This Heat, Massacre & Camberwell Now to play The Green Door Store!

I'm super excited about this. For those of you who read my first blog post, it included 3 videos by some of my favourite tunes, one of which was Health and Efficiency by This Heat. It's safe to say I never expected to put on any musicians associated with this band, but, well, what do you know, it's gone and happened. This Heat's co-founder and leader Charles Hayward will be playing a Love Thy Neighbour show on 31st May at The Green Door Store.

This Heat were influenced by Throbbing Gristle, Can and Lee 'Scratch' Perry and existed in the late 70's and are widely considered the missing link between Krautrock and post-punk and noise. As well as This Heat, he has also played with Gong, Crass and The Raincoats, formed bands such as Quiet Sun (with Phil Manzanera of Roxy Music) and Camberwell Now and joined Fred Frith & Bill Laswell's experimental rock act Massacre. His current one-man show is an intoxicating mix of percussive attack, swirling electronics and lyrical fragment collage.

So, yeah, I'm very excited by this. So excited I haven't mentioned the rather wonderful support act, Capillary Action. Pet Moon confirms for March club night!

Just a quick message this one, three blogs in one week is more than enough! However, this one is pretty exciting and I couldn't wait till next week... Pet Moon has confirmed to play our March club night. For those who don't know, Pet Moon is the new project from Andrew Mears ex of Youthmovies and Foals. As always, it's on the second Friday of the month, which is the 11th March. More info on tickets etc soon.

Hind Ear

So anyone who knows me will know how much I hold this band in high regard. I've just seen that they've released Rain Man on French label Maman, which follows Coconut, released on Nouns earlier in the year. I'm a few weeks late on this, but I'm sure you'll forgive me when you listen to it. The single comes with 2 remixes, one crunching electronica take by Golden Bug, and Villeneuve's slightly more playful number.

Love Thy Neighbour Club Night!

So I mentioned it in the last post, Love Thy Neighbour is launching a club night. It’s a monthly affair at The Hope on Queens Road and will feature 2 great bands per night, then Love Thy Neighbour + guest DJ’s playing interesting, but not obscure party tunes till 2am.

It all starts on the 14th January and every second Friday onwards. Our first 2 headliners confirmed last week and we’re super excited to announce them here & now. First up are one of Brighton’s finest, Restlesslist.  This will be their first gig in absolutely ages and if it’s ready in time, their album launch party. They’re a tough band to classify; heavily influenced by Anticon’s leftfield hip hop & electronica sound and the likes of The Chap. I’d also hazard a guess that they’ve also listened to a lot of prog in their time too. Support will be announced shortly.

For our second night on 11th February we have Oxford’s Fixers. They are part of a group of bands involved with Blessing Force (Pet Moon, Chad Valley etc), which had a nice feature in NME recently. Sonorous melodies and incredible musicianship blend together to make music that is thoughtful and uplifting. An experimental surf dance quintet. They have been playing and recording together for just under a year, blending the sixties psychedelic childlike innocence of Brian Wilson and Bruce Haack with the spaced out eighties avant-garde dance of Arthur Russell, Dead Can Dance and Tom Tom Club.

As for what tunes will be played, to be honest, I’m not too sure. The aim is to play the sort of music we like to dance to, so a mix of indie / bass music / electronica. Stuff like TV on the Radio, Liars, Kanye West, Errors, HEALTH, Darkstar, James Blake, Caribou etc.

Entrance is a mere £4, or £3 if you buy them in advance from Resident, Rounder or online.

First show tomorrow!
