This Promoter Needs Guns

Not really. I just did a joke with the band's name...

I'm pretty damn happy to announce that This Town Needs Guns will be coming back to Brighton after their sell out show with Tubelord at The Prince Albert back in 2009. They shall be playing in Sticky Mike's Frog Bar on Friday 2nd December.

For those who don't know, Oxford's This Town Needs Guns have been around since 2004 and make mathy rock music influenced by the likes of Owls, American Football and Make Believe. Their debut album 'Animals' was released in 2008 by acclaimed indie Big Scary Monsters and Sargent House (Omar Rodriguez Lopez, Maps and Atlases, Hella, Boris, Russian Circles...). Their new album is being recorded next month with Ed Rose (Appleseed Cast, Get Up Kids, Motion City Soundtrack, etc.), so this show will preview some of their new tracks as well as a new line up, with Pennines Henry Tremain joining the ranks.

We Were Promised Jetpacks in Brighton!

Yes Yes!

Their first show in Brighton since their sold out show at The Freebutt nearly 2 years ago, We Were Promised Jetpacks return, this time at Sticky Mike's Frog Bar.

Pretty exciting stuff, but there is more my good friend, the band are also releasing a new album on 3rd October through the bloody fabulous FatCat Records. Entitled ‘In The Pit Of The Stomach’, it bears testimony to the poise, control, confidence and vigour the band now command (at least that's what the press release says, I haven't heard it yet).

It continues: Post the release of their ‘These Four Walls’ debut in June 2009 the band have achieved huge success touring America and Europe, highlights of which include selling out New York’s Williamsburg Music Hall and attracting high-profile support slots for gold-selling US rock bands like Passion Pit and Jimmy Eat

World.

With thunderous live performances matching the power of fellow Scot’s Mogwai and a pop sensibility comparable to that of Foals or Bloc Party, ‘In The Pit Of The Stomach’ proves how WWPJ have stealthily become a fully-fledged rock band - louder, wilder, avidly literate, fiercely melodic, powerfully restrained.

So yeah, you'd have to be a music PR to call a tour with Passion Pit a highlight, but there you go. For one, I'm psyched to hear the band's new material, These Four Walls was one of my highlights of 2009.

Here's a video, this was filmed at the Doug Fir in Portland, which is a fantastic venue and has very patient and good natured staff, even if you do end up having to leave your van in their loading bay for 24 extra hours due to someone taking the keys to Canada.

Love Inks debut UK tour hits Brighton

After ducking out for the summer, we have another awesome show in September (plus we're still to announce our clubnight in September...). It features Austin, Texas band Love Inks, whose album E.S.P is one of the most addictive I've heard in recent months that's for sure. It's a dreamy pop gem of an album and I love it. It came out on bloody great Italian label Hell, Yes! (Crocodiles, Dum Dum Girls...) and is sure to be on many people's stereo over the summer.

Man Man! In Brighton! EXCITEMENT!

I'm pretty damn excited about this one. Man Man are one of the greatest live bands I've ever seen. I saw them at the Pitchfork curated All Tomorrow's Parties in 2008 and they blew everyone else out of the water. Their rhythmic, pulsating and energetic performance was typical of their live shows; a whirlwind of songs that flow seamlessly from one to the other amidst a jumble of swapped instruments and found objects. This was further enhanced by their appearance; mustached, real or fake, war painted and in all-white, they looked like a band formed by the dudes from the 118 118 adverts.

They come to Brighton (for the first time I believe) on a rare visit to the UK which features a mere 2 dates to promote their new album on Anti. I implore you to come, this will be an awesome show!

No More shows till September!

So yeah, the summer sucks in Brighton. For promoters anyway. Why go to a show when you can sit on the beach and get drunk for £1 a can?

We had some amazing shows in May with Thomas Truax & one of my musical heroes Charles Hayward, but now we're calling it a day till September. We have some great announcements to make shortly about our first shows & return of our clubnight which will be in September.

New Date for Thomas Truax show

Howdy folks,

I'm sure many of you were disappointed to hear that the Thomas Truax gig on 18th March had to be postponed, but we're happy to announce that we have a new date; Thursday 5th May. Unfortunately we couldn't get a new date at The Green Door Store, it's a popular place now y'see, but we've found a new home for the show at Jam, on Middle Street. Old tickets will obviously still be valid.

In other news, the Errors show at the Hope is selling well - if you haven't got a ticket, I wouldn't hang around! Support comes from Cinemascopes and one more tbc.

New Show: Band of Skulls!

It's always good when a band from your hometown escapes and makes music that is heard by more than 5 people outside of the said town's postcode. My hometown is Southampton and very few bands escape. Band of Skulls are one of only 3 bands in my memory that have done so and they've done so in style; I-Tunes single of the week, world tours, selling out the 2000 capacity Forum in London last year and appearing on The Twilight sound track to name a few highlights.

The band bring their ballsy blues rock to The Green Door store on Thursday 31st March, in what is definitely a intimate venue for the band!

Tickets are available from Rounder, Resident, Ape, Seetickets and WeGotTickets. This will definitely sell out (at the time of writing it's a third of the way there and it's been on sale since Wednesday), so pick up your tickets asap!

We have a logo! It's up there! It was done by this talented chap: Billy Mather. Check his stuff out and I dunno, buy something of his, or commission him to paint characters on the outside of your house.

Suuns show is THIS SUNDAY. The album is Rounder Records' album of the year so far, and quite frankly I can see why, it's flipping amazing! Support comes from 2 of my favourite local acts Vile Imbeciles and Restlesslist.
